David graduated with honors from Brooks Institute of Photography in 1980. Brooks invited him back in 2003 to give the commencement address and be awarded an Honorary Masters Degree.
His career has balanced commercial projects with personal creative photography and teaching. David's work has been published in numerous magazines including The Los Angeles Times Magazine, Time, Orion, Audubon, Sierra, Nature, Outdoor Photographer, Rangefinder, Architectural Record, SHOTS and many more. Photographs of David's have been published in a half dozen books including his monograph, Urban Forest - Images of Trees in the Human Landscape, published by Sierra Cub Books. It was selected by the Christian Science Monitor as one of the seven best photography books in 2003.
His personal photographic work is widely collected and exhibited both privately and publicly including in the Portland Art Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Biblioteque Nationale and others.
David's commercial career is centered around portraiture and architectural work, receiving numerous awards and honors at the state and national levels. In photography classes and workshops in the US, Italy and Norway, David has helped students discover and refine a sense of style and vision by connecting the inner voice of experience with the outer view of the world.
