general questions

Q: Why are there specific dates for 2D and 3D photography?

A: By streamlining the process and grouping appointments I can reduce the price while delivering high quality work.

Q: How do I schedule my appointment?

A: In order to streamline the process and reduce fees, I utilize a simple self-scheduling service. Click here to schedule your appointment.

Q: How do I make the payment for my appointment?

A: After scheduling your appointment, the process will lead you to a secure checkout window via Paypal or Paypal credit card service.

Q: How will I receive the finished images?

A: I will send you an email stating your images are on their way via WeTransfer.com. Next you will receive an email from them with the directions to download your image files. It's a simple process, not too different from downloading images attached to an email.

Q: How long will it take to get my finished images?

A: It usually takes between 24-72 hours.

Q: I want to produce a coffee table book of my artwork. Will the images I receive from you be high enough quality for Blurb or Lulu press?

A: Yes - absolutely! For three reasons: Very high quality image sensor; A $2,400 lens; And lots of resolution.

Q: Where is your studio?

A: It is located about eight minutes south and west of Philomath and about 15 minutes from the south town Co-op in Corvallis. You will be given directions when you schedule your appointment. Most people find the drive beautiful, and a relaxing way to arrive for a photo shoot. I recently did a session with six doctors. They loved coming here and one Doc asked if he could come back another time and just walk around. They now refer to me as 'that photographer in the woods'!

2d Questions

Q: Is there a size limit for the 2D Artwork?

A: Two dimensional art is limited to 50 x 70 inches for this service. If you have work larger than than that, please contact me for a custom quote.

Q: How many artworks can you photograph in one hour?

A: The average for 2D artworks is between  12 and 15 paintings per hour. You will work as my assistant, helping to move the paintings on and off the photo set.

Q: I have eight paintings, how will I pay for the three additional paintings?

A: Please bring your checkbook or cash to cover the flat rate of $15 per painting beyond the first five that are included in the minimum deposit. In this case it would be $45 for the additional three paintings.

Q: What if my art is framed with glass?

A: It should be unframed for the best quality. However I do have clients who choose to pay an additional flat rate of $35 and I will create a large black surround and eliminate most of the reflections.

Q: What if my art is framed without glass?

A: Some clients want to show the frame as part of the final product for sale or display. It is easy to photograph them framed, just know that there will be a very small and light shadow cast on the art from the frame itself.

Q: What if I have 30 paintings and need more than one hour?

A: Fabulous! When you schedule the first hour there will be a tab that pops up with two options: Select the 'recurring' option. On the next page it asks if you want a recurring appointment or to add more time to your existing appointment: Select 'add more time'. Then choose the hour before or after your first selection. Then select 'continue'. Congratulations, you now have a back to back two hour appointment scheduled.

Q: I want to sell Giclee prints from my work. How large can I print my work from the digital files you deliver to me?

A: These are fairly large image files and will make great show cards, brochures, web and giclee prints up to 20" on the longest side.

Q: What if I want to make prints larger than 20" on the long side?

A: In that case I use a technique called 'tiling'. I photograph your artwork in sections and piece it back together in post production. I can make a file size as large as you need using this technique. The cost is $15 per section of the painting and then a $15 fee to piece it together. For example if you want a file size that requires me to shoot your painting in four sections the cost would be $75. Or ... 4 x $15 = $60 plus the additional $15 post production fee.

3d Questions

Q: Is there a size limit for the 3D Artwork?

A: At this point in time, yes. This special is limited to tabletop work. If there is enough demand I will figure out a way to offer something similar for large pieces. If you have large 3D works, please contact me so I know there is interest.

Q: How many artworks can you photograph in one hour?

A: It varies depending on a few factors. If you create objects that are very different from one another, and you want different styles of light for each piece, it will take more time. In this case, maybe 2-3 per hour. If you create a series of ceramic masks that are quite similar to one another, then once we achieve the lighting you like, photography will go quickly. In this case, maybe 8-9 per hour.

Q: How will I view the images while you shoot?

A: I have a wireless system that automatically sends the images to my iPad. We can view, scroll and zoom in to evaluate lighting and details.

Q: May I drop off the pieces and pick them up later.

A: Not at this time. As part of the discounted rate, you will work as my assistant, helping to move your pieces on and off the photo set. More importantly, you need to be part of the creative process.

Q: The deposit covers the hourly rate. If we do eight shots, how will I pay the per shot, post processing fee?

A: Please bring your checkbook or cash to cover the flat rate of $5.00 per shot fee.

Q: What if I have 15 pieces and need more than one hour?

A: Fabulous! We can do that. When you are scheduling the first hour there will be a tab that pops up with two options: Select the 'recurring' option. On the next page it asks if you want a recurring appointment or to add more time to your existing appointment: Select 'add more time'. Then choose the hour before or after your first selection. Then select 'continue'. Congratulations, you now have a back to back two hour appointment scheduled.
